What to Expect in Therapy

About Therapy

"A moment of self compassion can change your entire day.  A string of such moments can change the course of your life."

Therapy is about exploring the dark and the light, celebrating the joy and overcoming hardship.  We are in this together, you are not alone!
My work with you is always in the spirit of collaboration.  I am a deep and attentive listener, but also an interactive therapist.  One of my goals is to give you my "toolbox" so you can manage your life outside the office.  I invite you into feelings, which I see as a compass to guide you through fear, desire, hope, anger, blame, happiness and joy.

Some of the modalities I bring into our work include:

Attachment Theory

Understanding how you learned what love is, what it isn't, how your caregivers made you feel about yourself, their availability, lack of attention, too much attention, and more help us understand why you enter the relationships you do.

Parts Work

Get in touch with the many parts of you. We will discover what parts have a voice, don't have a voice, have been suppressed, injured, are overlooked, overworked, undiscovered or have taken over.  The goal is to integrate them into a functioning "whole" self.

Mindfulness / Self Awareness

Deepen your relationship with feelings, desires, needs and hopes.  We take the time to listen to your mind, calm the thoughts, reflect on experiences, dive deeper into the subconscious and create intention.  Slowing the process down gives us time to understand the nuances and meaning of things more clearly.

Relational

Creating safety and trust in our relationship is of utmost importance to me.  Offering you a non-judgmental place to explore your feelings will help us create new ways in relating to oneself and others.  We are creating a new relationship together, that hopefully will help you grow, trust and be yourself.

Connection with Trauma

I hold any trauma you may have experienced as an integral part of who you are.  I welcome ways to bring healing to those experiences, as well as explore blame, resentment, triggers and shame that may have evolved because of it.

Somatic Therapy

Our body holds all of our stories, feelings and thoughts. Often we don't attune to what is happening in our body. Bringing in somatic awareness allows you to learn from your body and tending to its reactions and feelings. This is valuable, especially if you have physical symptoms, anxiety/panic attacks or physical sensations related to events in the environment. This is also helpful for those who have PTSD.

Fees and policies

I offer both 50 and 75 minute sessions.  In our initial phone consultation we will discuss my fee and offerings in more detail.
Please know I offer several sliding scale appointments because I want therapy to affordable for everyone!  Sliding scale begins at $130 and is based on need and income.

Scheduling

Each session is for 50 minutes, however we can arrange 75 minutes if you prefer.  It's important to remain consistent throughout our work, so we will meet weekly.  I have a 48-hour cancellation policy.  All cancellations should be done by phone or email.

Insurance

I am not on any insurance panels therefore I accept private pay only.  If you are eligible for reimbursement, I will create a monthly super bill for you to submit to your insurance.  I do accept direct HSA payments if you have a card with a Visa or MasterCard logo on it.
